Malta Airport opens departures lounge to public
General shopping public will avail itself of departures lounges shops.
Malta International Airport will once again be opening its Departures Lounge to locals in an event aimed at the general public, particularly giving the opportunity to all those people who rarely or never travel to experience the feel of going through the airport. The event will be held on Thursday 13th December from 6pm till midnight.
On the night, visitors will be experiencing the whole process all passengers go through when travelling. At first, the public will be asked to 'Check-in' by queuing up to receive the 'Boarding Card' which will enable them to go to the Security Screening Area, where they will be screened and allowed to move on to the Schengen and non-Schengen Departures Area, as if they were travelling.
Once entering the main Departures Lounge, everyone will be able to shop or dine while experiencing the unique feel of the airport's Departures Area. The event will also allow locals to avail themselves of the offers usually available to travelling passengers, especially at the beginning of the Festive Season.
All those attending and shopping on the night can join other shoppers who all along summer have thrown in their tickets after purchasing goods from any outlet worth €75 or more, to participate in the Malta Airport Shopping draw. In fact, the following day - 14th November - a lucky shopper will win a Mazda MX5 car.
Moreover, during this year's event, all those who attend can enjoy Christmas Carols by an 'a capella' choir, as well as a bagpipe band. Kids can meet their favourite Disney Characters and they can meet and take photos with Santa Claus.
The date and time chosen for the event do not affect the normal operations at the airport as it is a period during which there are no departing flights. For further information, log on to www.maltairport.com or send an email to [email protected].
