The head of the Prime Minister's internal audit and investigations department (IAID) Rita Schembri has admitted her company didn't issue fiscal receipts for payments received. In a sworn note, Schembri's admission has been deposited before the First Hall of the Civil Court and has now been sent to OLAF - the EU's anti-fraud office.

The documentation, together with an official report, were sent to OLAF by businessman Joseph Borg who asked OLAF to investigate Schembri over alleged fraud.

The three-page letter sent to OLAF was at the heart of the investigation that led to the arrest and prosecution of Borg before the Criminal Court over blackmailing and defamation charges against Rita Schembri and her husband Mark.

Was Principal Permanent Secretary aware that Ms Schembri had a Company when he granted her permission to perform private work?

Who audits the Auditor? She should lead by example. Does she has the face and guts to carry our internal audits at the Vat and Income Tax Departments when at the back of her mind and in her heart of hearts she knows that she is guilty of tax evasion? Can she query these departments if her own department finds out that private companies are not issuing fiscal receipts in terms of law? Has Commissioner of Inland Revenue carried out a full investigation of her declared income in her returns over the past few years? Is the Principal Permanent Secretary still backing the behaviour of this public officer following these allegations?

what a bad example from the head if the IAID. She must immediately resign and investigated and pay the consequences.

As I have often said, this island's citizens core values have been rot by the PN's 25 years of "money no problem" basis for Government policies. From top to bottom! They practised this maxim so well and thoroughly, so that they will govern unhindered and position themselves to be engulfed in thick, rich, black smoke. I cannot wait for the Whistleblowers Act to come on stream.

A perfect example of the pot calling the kettle black...!!!

Wonder what other maggots lie hidden? Malta has about half a billion in tax evasion.

In a normal country it is the eunuchs who take care of the virgins: not in Malta!

I get the feeling that the police arrested the wrong man. Why? If Rita is found guilty of tax evasion then she must pay the price for evading paying tax, and that should be no Suspended Sentence either. Tax evasion is a very serious matter, at least it should be, although in Malta it is the thing to do because if caught cheating on your taxes and you know the right people nothing happens, not like if one of us second class citizens fail to pay our taxes, if it was us they will surely make us pay and then tack on a few years in prison. And justice for all. .

If what is being alleged is true this is a very serious matter taking in consideration that the person concerned is the head of the Prime Minister's internal audit and investigations department.

AN AUDIT would be in order on the head of the Prime Minister's internal audit and investigations department (IAID) Rita Schembri! Maybe John Dalli should be COMMISSIONED to do it ! It would be proverbial justice!
