Rita Schembri admits to tax evasion, affidavit sent to OLAF
In a sworn note deposited before the First Hall of the Civil Court, Rita Schembri admits her company didn’t issue fiscal receipts for payments received.
The head of the Prime Minister's internal audit and investigations department (IAID) Rita Schembri has admitted her company didn't issue fiscal receipts for payments received. In a sworn note, Schembri's admission has been deposited before the First Hall of the Civil Court and has now been sent to OLAF - the EU's anti-fraud office.
The documentation, together with an official report, were sent to OLAF by businessman Joseph Borg who asked OLAF to investigate Schembri over alleged fraud.
The three-page letter sent to OLAF was at the heart of the investigation that led to the arrest and prosecution of Borg before the Criminal Court over blackmailing and defamation charges against Rita Schembri and her husband Mark.
