Forum: Maltese families facing new burden with increase in gas prices

Nurses union boss Paul Pace has denounced the increase in the price of gas cylinders as yet another blow to families’ standards of living.

In a statement issued by the federation of unions Forum, Pace said the new increase would affect pensioners, widowers and thousands of others living on the brink of poverty.

“The middle class is passing through some tough times after a series of measures in the past year saw exaggerated and senseless energy tariffs that are impacting many families. More young people are finding it hard getting a decent job or full-time employment, couples face unlimited obstacles in living a normal and decent life.”

The Forum is trying to gain recognition and form part of the Malta Council for Social and Economic Development, which has so far been refused. The Forum is made of up 11 unions, including the Malta Union of Teachers and the Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses, and has 12,000 members in total.
