Tarxien man's condition improves after dangerous dive

A 20-year-old Tarxien man who was hospitalised with serious injuries to his spine after jumping into the sea at the Kalanka area last week, is on the mend, a police statement said today.

Initial police investigations on site showed that the man found himself in difficulty at sea for some reason or another after having jumped into the sea. A Civil Protection Department (CPD) vessel had to be dispatched on site to transfer the victim on shore.  He was then transferred to an ambulance and transported to Mater Dei Hospital.

Initial medical reports indicated that the man had grievous injuries to his spine. He was still being examined by doctors at Mater Dei. On duty Magistrate Gabriella Vella has appointed a magisterial inquiry on the case.
