Two directors from private aviation firm Medavia, have been released from arrest in Tripoli after they were accused of aiding the Gaddafi regime during the civil conflict in Libya in 2011.

The officials, Maltese citizen Abdulrazagh Zmirli, and general technical manager Abdalla Dekna, were freed after the involvement of the Maltese government.

The two men were arrested on 18 December.

A judicial decision to charge or release the men still had to be taken, but Libyan sources said the Zawija police seem to have applied a Gaddafi-era law that allows detention for up to 45 days.

Zmirli and Dekna were held for questioning following claims they helped the Gaddafi regime during last year's conflict.
