Following a successful end to 2012 with over 10,000 dogs neutered and micro-chipped since Dogs Trust Malta's inception in 2009, the animal charity has extended their free neutering and micro-chipping offer to the entire population of Malta and Gozo during January, February and March in an effort to further reduce the number of unwanted puppies and stray dogs.

Headlining the campaign is local rap singer Hooligan who has teamed up with Dogs Trust to promote the offer through a jingle he authored and recorded which will be released along with a video in the coming days.

Hooligan hopes to set an example for the public by encouraging people to neuter and chip their dog not only for the health benefits, but for the love and respect we have toward our pets.

"When Dogs Trust first approached me about this campaign, I jumped at the opportunity! I was very excited to promote something I really believe in and I feel honoured to be the person to front this great cause.

"I have a beautiful pug, Wana, who is both chipped and neutered and not only can we avoid unplanned pregnancies, but we also have peace of mind that she is perfectly healthy and will not suffer from some very common health problems," Hooligan said.

Dogs Trust Malta said it is renewing its commitment to educating members of the public, young and old alike, about responsible ownership. Responsible ownership ensures a cleaner environment, a healthier society and happier dogs.

Members of the public who wish to benefit from this nationwide campaign are encouraged to call their local vet to book an appointment from January to March and quote 'Dogs Trust Offer' or ask for more information by calling Dogs Trust Malta on 21 421 500 or 77711100 or by email to [email protected]. The offer will be subject to available funds.
