Lou Bondì dubs Joe Grima ‘a sleazebag’ over Facebook comment
Former Labour minister calls TVHEMM presenter Norman Vella ‘sworn enemy’ of Labour Party.
Bondiplus presenter Lou Bondì has dubbed Joe Grima a "sleazebag" after the former One TV chat-show host took exception for the presence of TVHEMM presenter Norman Vella at Labour's New Year greetings held today at the PL headquarters.
Grima, a former Labour minister who had his show Inkontri cancelled for an audacious Facebook status he posted earlier in 2012, dubbed Vella "a sworn enemy of Labour" who should not have accepted an invitation to attend the party's social event for media.
Bondì, whose production house produces TVHEMM, turned to Facebook to denounce Grima's comments for "[creating] a politically divisive story where there isn't one."
"Grima wrote on FB that I did the right thing not to go to the PL's reception... not that I care about what he thinks... quite simply I am down with the usual seasonal bug," Bondì wrote.
"I have always been welcomed by the last three Labour leaders, including the present one. Why would I start declining these invitations now?"
Grima's remarks on Facebook did not go unnoticed after saying that it was "not right" for Vella to partake in Labour's drinks' event "with the same people he demonises and to whom he tries to cause damage. If it were for me, I would have thanked (the PL) for the invitation and I would not have gone."
Grima claimed he had turned down several invitations from the Gonzi administration because he felt "uncomfortable" attending dos by a government of which he was a critic.
Labour critics and Where's Everybody directors Lou Bondì and Peppi Azzopardi have long been at loggerheads over claims that WE are politically biased in favour of the Nationalist administration.
Back in August, Labour leader Joseph Muscat disassociated himself from comments posted by Grima on his Facebook profile, referring to a Dom Mintoff obituary published in The Catholic Herald and penned by Fr Alexander Lucie Smith. "I read your article Fr Lucie-Smith and your comments about Dom Mintoff. Do you want to have mine? Certainly. Fuck you Father. If you're not already used to it there are enough paedophiles (sic) in your clan to show you the ropes."
Muscat said he could never accept such language, and demanded that Grima resigns from his One TV talk show Inkontri.
