Letter sent to petrol stations withdrawn

A letter sent to all petrol stations owners warning of a price hike on the selling price of fuel by Enemalta has been withdrawn at the last minute by Finance Minister Tonio Fenech, The Sunday Times reports today.

The letter which was sent by Enemalta CEO Karl Camilleri stated that the price of fuel would be increased by 1.6 cents per litre as from the beginning of July. GRTU Petrol Stations Owners Section Head Carlo Cini is reported as saying that if Enemalta went ahead with this decision, petrol station owners would buy no petrol ‘causing pandemonium’.

The paper states that Finance Minister Tonio Fenech has said that talks on the issue would continue although fuel pump owners were incensed that Enemalta expects them to maintain their stations when there was no money in the maintenance fund which was set up by Enemalta.

Cini is quoted saying that action on the issue is not being ruled out.
