This is not the PN I knew – John Bencini
Following his resignation from the Forum confederation of unions, John Bencini speaks to Illum on his 35-year-old career in trade unionism and his take on the current political scene.
Former MUT president and FORUM president John Bencini has called it a day in trade unionism after serving for 35 years.
Speaking to Sunday newspaper Illum, Bencini insisted that his decision to resign from the post as president of the 11-union confederation had nothing to do with a political activity he attended in Qormi in which he spoke about education.
He adds that he had informed the secretary general of Forum last year that he would be resigning by the end of December 2012 and his decision had nothing to do with his presence at an activity organised by Labour MP Marie Louise Coleiro Preca.
Bencini also speaks on his militancy in the Nationalist Party and the decision to resign as a party member in 2010.
"The Nationalist Party is no longer the party I know. This is affirmed by myself, my family and my friends. This is no longer Gorg Borg Olivier's party," Bencini says.
