Updated | Overseas voters finding it hard to book a flight-AD
Both the PN and PL appear to have block booked flight seats for their supported according to AD.
Adds Air Malta statement
Arnold Cassola, AD spokesperson on EU and International Affairs, said "Reports have reached Alternattiva Demokratika that voters are finding it difficult to book flights to Malta for the 9th March elections.
Both London and Brussels contain a large amount of Maltese voters, meaning that booking a flight is proving problematic.
"It would seem the PN and the PL have pre-booked seats on the national airline for their supporters, thus making it difficult for those voters who do not want to identify with any political party to come to Malta," Cassola said.
"Alternattiva Demokratika strongly deplores the fact that the Electoral Commissioner has asked the political parties to nominate an employee of Air Malta of their trust to oversee the applications of each respective political party voters."
The AD has refused to avail itself of this offer, stating "Air Malta employees are paid to work for their company and not for the benefit of PN and PL."
Reacting to Alternattiva’s statement earlier today, Air Malta declared that seats are still obtainable for overseas voters.
“Seats are still available on various Air Malta flights including those from London and Brussels. If a particular flight is full, alternatives[sic] arrangements are being offered. Air Malta added that there was never a pre-booking arrangement and the system in place is the same as employed in previous elections.”
