IGM complain on lack of police cooperation

The Institute of Maltese Journalists (IGM) criticised the lack of cooperation from the police corps

The institute referred to a case which took place last Sunday, involving Favourite Channel journalist Brandon Pisani and cameraman Patrick Borg, while reporting a road accident in Zabbar. The two men were made subject to intimidation by the Ferrari driver, who opposed the filming of the accident.

Although police were present on site, the driver continued to intimidate the reporters, and was not stopped or confronted at any point. The IGM said that even when the driver started to use physical actions, he was not approached by police. As a result, the reporters were unable to get any footage of the accident.

Pisani was involved in a similar incident three years ago, and was taken to court by the same police present at the scene of the incident. The case closed in favour of Pisani. “This is unacceptable for the institute, and unfortunately is not the only case. The IGM has received many complaints regarding the lack of police cooperation while at work, especially while reporting such cases as these,” IGM chairman Malcolm J. Naudi said.

The institute is appealing again to the police for collaboration on their part, and reminding journalists to carry some form of identification with them while working on site.
