Birkirkara residents request OLAF investigation
Birkirkara residents make formal request for an OLAF investigation over financial anomalies in EU funded projects.
A number of Birkirkara residents have asked for an investigation by the European Union's anti-fraud office OLFA into the town's mayor Michael Fenech Adami stewardshiup of EU funded projects.
Sunday newspaper Illum reports that residents made the request following a number of alleged anomalies in the local council's financial statements, which show a debt of around €1 million.
The residents are asking the anti-fraud office to investigate the mayor's involvement in the award of contracts to in connection to the restoration of a niche which was funded by the EU. The project costs totaled to around €500,000.
