Muscat to retain Marlene Bonnici as ambassador to the EU
Prime Minister Joseph Muscat reassures workers at Malta’s representation office in Brussels that the Labour government was ‘ready to work with everyone’.
Prime Minister Joseph Muscat announced his decision to retain Marlene Bonnici as Malta's permanent representative to the European Union during a visit he made at Malta House in Brussels.
He was very frank with the workers, telling them he knew that there could be some workers who might not feel comfortable working with a Labour administration, but reassured that he still "trusted" them.
"We are ready to work with everyone," Muscat said, adding that he understood that some of the workers could be "apprehensive".
"But our wish is that you continue, business as usually, and a new government is ready to work with everyone."
Muscat added that what he expected from them was "total unconditional loyalty, not to me but towards the government, as representative of the Maltese people".
The new Prime Minister said that for those who still felt uncomfortable working under the new Labour administration, "other solutions can be found".
"But I do trust you and I expect you to give your 110%. This is my message... loud and clear and I hope we can work together," he added.
