Dolores Cristina appointed acting president

Former education minister Dolores Cristina is acting president for the period between 18 and 20 March, when President George Abela will be visiting the Vatican City for the ceremony of the investiture of Pope Francis 1.

The appointment of Cristina was made by the Prime Minister in consultation with the Opposition leader.

I know Dr. Muscat said that he will let Gonzi do the opening ceremony for the fiasco of our Capital city, but I never realized that he meant it, Literally. I just don't know. I am a bit disappointed already. Marlene Mizzi would have done a fantastic job.

Where are my comments??

I hope that during these two days Dolores Cristina will not have any official meetings to meet foreign dignitaries. During her 5 years as Education Minister, she only attended one meeting of the Council of Ministers on Education out of a possible 25 formal and informal ones. It is clear that she failed miserably to own up to her responsibilities. She was shy to meet her counterparts in the EU who as a club meet to discuss how to improve education on levels. With her failings, how could she ever achieve the best measures for students? So for these reasons Gonzi should not have proposed her to be acting President for two days.

How can Dolores Cristina be appointed to this position to represent the Maltese public when she hated mingling with her own officers? When she was Minister of Education she refused to have her offices with her workers in Floriana even though all her predecessors as Education Minister had their offices their. So for the last 5 years she furnished her separate offices in Casa Leone in St. Venera, then she moved to Palazzo Fererria in Republic Street and then to another office in Strait Street: three offices on which she spent big thousands of money from public funds to refurbish. Shame on Cristina for being the most elite politician Malta has ever had. She also ruined the once in a life time chances of thousands of university students to benefit from EU funds and go abroad. This decision to appoint Cristina as acting President is the worst one could have taken. Her nomination should not have been accepted!

I don't know why she was chosen. Are we going to govern by good example? The nest President should be elected by the people for the people. Stop treating us like idiots. I want to chose my president, what should be an honest persons and no dark spots in his career. The President should be given more power. I am expecting my rights to be given by the PL. Our President, albeit an acting President, should be one beyond reproach who holds the trust of all our people. Dolores Cristina and her son were blamed by the PL for the Educational EU Programmes scandal and consequently I find it hard to fathom her appointment as acting President, even for one instant. The President of the Court is a political appointee, from Attorney General directly to Chief Justice. He does not represent the trust of our People. On the other hand Dr Vincent DeGaetano was not only deputy Attorney General, rising through the ranks, but also Judge, and Chief Justice and now Judge at the European Court. He has the trust of all and is highly acceptable.

Right reason , wrong choice. There are other nationalists more worth of the appointment, Helen D'Amato comes to mind.

Wrong choice even if for only 2 days. Lets hope nobody gets the brainwave of making it permanent when the time comes! She rubs one the wrong way! Certainly we have more appealling women to choose from and with brains too.

I have no comment to post regarding this temporary appointment, however I would like to see a President who was not active in politics, such as Dr V DeGaetano, ex A.G. and President of the Court. Prim Imhallef.

Don`t know why but she always makes me feel sad.
