AFM rescues injured Italian off Gnejna Bay

Yesterday afternoon at 2:30pm, the Operations Centre of the AFM was informed by Mater Dei Hospital that a male individual of foreign nationality had fallen down the cliffs limits of Gnejna bay and was lying unconscious.

Members of CPD were already on site. Due, however, to the difficult terrain, they required the assistance of a helicopter as they were unable to evacuate the injured man to safety. An Alouette III Helicopter was scrambled to the area and within minutes the AFM rescue team airlifted the injured Italian to an awaiting ambulance at St Luke's Hospital helipad following which he was later taken to Mater Dei Hospital for further medical assistance.
