Government approves Ornis setup, first on the agenda spring hunting

The Labour government has approved the setting up of the Ornis Committee which is set to meet tomorrow morning to start discussions on a derogation for spring hunting.

This was announced in a statement by the parliamentary secretary for agriculture, fisheries and animal rights Roderick Galdes.

Former MEPA board member Louis Cassar has been appointed chairman of the committee, the body which issues recommendations to the government on opening the hunting season.

Victor Agius has been appointed secretary while members include Petra Caruana Dingli from the environmental protection directorate, FKNK representative Lino Farrugia and Joe Perici Calascione, BirdLife Malta representatives Joseph Mangion and Nicholas Barbara and avifauna expert Mark Gauci and hunting and trapping expert Frank Vassallo.

Members nominated by envrionment minister Leo Brincat are Emeline Fenech, Gwido Baldacchino and Marco Falzon.

Let's keep fingers crossed that in the first scheduled meeting of the ORNIS committee, there will be no agreement to open spring bird massacre from our local bird killers. Hunting is neither a sport and not even a right. the only RIGHT is for the birds TO LIVE. So if any ORNIS member is reading this comment please think and reflect before you decide. HUNTING IS KILLING.
