Diabetes charity thanks MEP for setting EU agenda on condition
European Coalition for Diabetes thanks Simon Busuttil for his continuous efforts to put diabetes on the EU agenda.
The European Coalition for Diabetes (ECD) has expressed its gratitude for the continuous and successful efforts of the former Maltese MEP Simon Busuttil in putting diabetes on the EU agenda.
As a Member of the European Parliament, Simon Busuttil was one of the co-chairs of the EU Diabetes Working Group (EUDWG), a group of cross-party, cross-national MEPs strongly committed to the diabetes cause.
Busuttil worked to bring together various institutions and stakeholders to put diabetes on the EU agenda. In March 2012 the EUDWG successfully pushed for a European Parliament Written Resolution to address the EU diabetes epidemic. Adopted by an overwhelming majority, this was the first time that the European Parliament adopted a resolution specifically on diabetes.
In September 2012, Simon Busuttil also received the 2012 MEP of the Year Award in the Health category in recognition of his work in the European Parliament to improve the lives of people living with diabetes in Europe.
"On behalf of the ECD co-chairs, I would like to thank Simon Busuttil for his remarkable contribution to the diabetes community in Europe. Through his work, he made sure the voice of the millions of people living with diabetes in Europe was heard, " commented Prof. Joao Manuel Valente Nabais, Chairman ECD.
