PN takes government to task over President’s speech from the throne

Nationalist Party says President’s written speech was ‘highly partisan’, a repetition of the slogans carried by Labour during the electoral campaign.

The Nationalist Party have dubbed the President's written speech as "highly partisan" which was repetitive of the slogans carried by the PL and Prime Minister Joseph Muscat during the electoral campaign.

Today's speech delivered by President George Abela in parliament did bear the hallmarks of Labour's campaign, including the reference to "an arrogant leadership", the dominance of the "clique" and "failed" plans.

As is the norm, the President's speech is penned by Castille and outlines the government's vision for the coming five years.

But according to the PN, the "highly partisan" speech was not fit for the occasion. "With the speech being read out by the President, it should have focused on unity and not on partisan slogans which undermine such an important occasion for parliament and which undermine the Presidency itself," the PN said.

The PN added that "one expected" a less partisan slogan which went against "the Prime Minister's slogans" of unity. The PN also lamented that the nomination of Anglu Farrugia as Speaker had been carried out without the opposition being consulted.

"This doesn't bode well for the future and it is yet another proof that the 'hand of friendship' which Labour wants to hold out is nothing else than an act to tease and humiliate the Opposition, especially since the government enjoys a nine-seat majority."

It is shameful that the president of a Nation does not have the guts to censor a speech given to him to be read to the Nation which contains insulting comments to the citizens. Joseph Muscat has ones again through this imposed speech from the thrown shown how much a manipulative person he is. A person who insults you in your face while with a smile tells you how much he wants to work with you so that you fall in his trap to be able to accuse you of disruption. And this is only the beginning. There is much more to come.

Does anyone remember the humiliating speech which the late A/President Pawlu Xuereb was made to read on the opening of Parliament following the PN's victory in May 1987? If you do, PN apologists please shut up. If you do not, well perhaps you should brush up your recent political history. It is normal for the Speech from the Throne to be drafted by the ruling party in government, so what do the PN expect?

Is "Malta Taghna ilkoll" partisan to the P.N.s ears ? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Maybe the PN objected to the word "Klikka" clique, and would have opted to "OLIGARCHY"? Would the PN now be objecting every time their reference to their slogan "FINANZI FIS-SOD" will come up every time the country's finances are discussed ? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PN must be suffering from "withdrawal syndrome" and are just stamping their feet just like capricious toddler! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Grow up PN, grow up!

Who cares about speeches? They are like electoral promises, all filled with promise and feel good factor. What I care about is the end result and under Dr Gonzi's I had a very bitter taste indeed, to put it mildly. Promotions at my place of work were mostly for the 'blue boys'. Some were even blessed with up to nine grades making their salaries exceed those of the prime minister (EUR 500 and all). This was not an isolated case. I got none in 20 years! So please stops whining. Do you think it was your speech that made you lose with a nine-seat majority?

It was simply......the truth, nothing else but the truth. It is the PN that does not want to accept change! Everyone one talks about arrogance of ex ministerand (Gonzi included) but not "those" who lead the PN!! Even de Marco admits "It's all about change". During the deputy leader's campaign De Marco said "two a company, three a crowd". What about four Mario?

No PN the humiliation was bestowed upon you, with a vengeance, by the people. The government has a program to follow and it cannot afford to look at faces, especially those who will try to undermine it at every corner. If is only the PN opposition, that wants " Malta taghna llkoll " to fail and hence the complaints.

Why all this fuss about wind energy....if one calculates the energy requirement entailed in producing the wind turbines i.e. melting the steel ecetera...the payback period in terms of net energy produced is ludicrously long...we should be researching free energy technologies...TAKE A LOOK: http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?48859-Breakthrough-Energy-Movement-Conference-2012-Netherlands-SolutionRevolutionS&s=95a0717c9a7986b854fe7903f9e5d412

It is a very small taste of their own medicine. The PN has been arrogant to the extreme, corrupt from the seams, vindictive against their opposition, even if it was just a simple PL supporter, certainly not the slightest hint of unity in the 25 years they ruled despotically this country. Now they want the red carpet too. Well that is too bad. Now the PN has to take it or lump it.

I think the final eight words of the article encapsulate the real reason why the PN is on grumpy mode these days. And by the by who gave the presidential role to George Abela ???

PN? Yawn! Are they still around?
