Union members 'celebrate' Geitu Mercieca's departure - il-mument

Il-mument claimed that many were those who had "shown their happiness" at Mercieca’s retirement, reporting claims of having “finally got rid of him.” According to the newspaper, celebrating Mercieca’s "retirement" were the top brass from the General Workers’ Union.

Rebecca Gatt, the former secretary and corporate executive at the GWU, and also a person very close to the same Mercieca, had also informed the union that her position with them was now over. The same newspaper reports that Geitu Mercieca retired after he lost the support of the majority of the Central Administration, of the Secretaries Group and of the members of the GWU’s National Council.
