Former health minister Joe Cassar has denied ignoring €1 million hospital management report carried out by the John Hopkins University and commissioned by the previous government.

According to the Nationalist Party, the report had been passed on to Mater Dei Hospital's Chief Executive Officer for implementation.

Yesterday, Health Minister Godfrey Farrugia claimed the report had been ignored by the previous administration.

The PN said the report was carried out after a specific request was made by the previous government in order to address the patients' needs.

"The report was approved by the PN administration and passed on to the hospital's CEO for its implementation," the PN said, adding that the CEO had initiated the implementation process.

"He passed on the part of the report relating to the Emergency Department to its management. Meanwhile, the management had been given the support and authority to start implementing the suggestions and recommendations."

The PN said one should appreciate the challenges that afflict the department and the high request for services, human resources, and bed space.

The PN said the previous administration worked hard in the sector, so much so that Mater Dei enjoyed the highest number of doctors, nurses and consultants working at the emergency department.

The party said there were also an increase in bed spaces and an expansion of services in the primary sector to alleviate the burden from MDH.

"All this contradicts the government's accusation and shows that the old government had followed the recommendations made by the Hopkins University.

"The current administration should not resort to banal excuses to cover up for its failures. One hopes that the Labour government continues working on the recommendations made," the PN said.

Tiskanta dawn ta gonzipn, bhal Simon Busullotti, lanqas Pilatu ma jaf jahsel idejh bhalhom. Vera inkredibbli. Kienu hemm sabiex jippuzaw u jiehdu eluf ta' euro ghalxejn. Meta jigu ghar-responsabilitajiet hlief coraggio fuggiamo , ma kienux jafu jghidu. Mela skond Cassar, ommi ta' 87 sena hallewa fil-kuritur tal-isptar ghal 24 siegha kien kollu tort tas-Ceo. U meta gibdulu l-attenzjoni ghad-disastri li kien hemm, kien wara jidher fuq it-TV u jghid li mhux vera hemm problemi. Jew haga jew ohra Cassar !!! Kont tinjora dawk l-eluf ta' pazjenti ahseb u ara kemm tajt kaz lil dak ir-rapport. Dik hi il-verita.

The Minister should at least have seen the report, even published it for public scrutiny and not just pay for it OUT OF OUR TAXES and pass on the buck!

Passing a report which has cost the Maltese taxpayer over € 1 million to the CEO is definitely not enough. That is called passing the buck in plain English. The one critical word which was absent in all the PN Ministers in the previous Government was ACCOUNTABILITY. They were never accountable even though it was their absolute duty to ensure that their orders were followed. So over € 1 million of taxpayers' money were thrown down the drain in the Zammit Clapp report following the 2008 election and now another € 1 million was thrown down the drain by GONZIPN over the last year. How many more millions must come to light before further action is taken.?

And that is why PN lost: no hands on leaving it to the marines believing everything works by itself not pushing for results no ummh no dynamism no vision asleep no fair and honest leadership.
