Vince Cassar, the new chairman appointed by the Labour government to the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA), will be receiving an annual salary of €17,999 - €76,205 less than his predecessor Austin Walker.

Replying to a parliamentary question raised by Opposition MP Jason Azzopardi, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said that Walker enjoyed an annual financial package of €92,204.

Azzopardi also asked Muscat to say which chairmen and board members on government entities and authorities will be receiving a salary which was less than their predecessors.

No reply was forthcoming.

Why 17,999 and not 18,000?

Was the €76,205 being given to a third party ?? And now, the third party is in deep financial turmoil, after the election ?

MEPA it is being transformed into an empty vessel. Every environmental NGO is rightfully concerned at what is happening. The conscious choices made by this government are the most insidious pro-developer, anti-environment decisions ever taken by any government. Please don't be silent MaltaToday. What consolation is it to have an inexpensive chairman for a vacant quango - a slave to developers interests?
