The House of Representatives this evening approved a motion presented by the Prime Minister on the new formation of the parliamentary Public Accounts Committee.

The motion was approved unanimously, appointing former finance minister Tonio Fenech as chair.

Members include Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi, parliamentary secretary for justice Owen Bonnici, MP Chris Agius and MP Justyne Caruana. The Opposition will be represented by MPs Kristy Debono and Claudio Grech.

Listing the members, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat joked that Mizzi and Fenech will "enjoy their time together" on the PAC - most probably referring to the heated exchanges the two used to share during the electoral campaingn on Labour's energy plan.

The PAC also scrutinises contracts awarded by government - so it is almost a foregone conclusion that the PAC will in the future discuss the process by which the Delimara power station was converted from heavy fuel oil to gas.
