Government committed to creation of a fair society – Coleiro Preca
Social Solidarity minister Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca underlines government’s commitment to create fair society and address migrants’ plight.
The Labour government is committed to creating a fair society for all, Social Solidarity minister Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca said.
Addressing a conference organised by the Organization for Migration, entitled Work: A Tool for Inclusion or a Reason for Exclusion, the minister underlined the government's commitment to guarantee dignity for all workers, including migrants.
"Migrants in precarious job conditions are a burden on the country, including workers," Coleiro Preca said.
Every person has a right to decent wages and conditions, the minister said, while stressing the government's pledge to fight against precariousness.
"The government is committed to address all kinds of discrimination, especially among vulnerable persons who are seeking work," she said.
These policies were the only guarantee against poverty and dependency on social benefits, Coleiro Preca said.
She added that the government would be working together with other European countries and the Organization for Migration to address migrants' needs.
