Gozo minister Anton Refalo has announced Joseph Cordina, a former Labour candidate whose financial services interests briefly connected him to the Enemalta oil scandal, as chairman of the Gozo Channel.

Cordina is the director of fiduciary services company Intershore, which served as a director of oil trader George Farrugia's company Aikon Ltd, before resigning from its directorship when Farrugia's family filed court proceedings against him over embezzlement of oil profits from family business Powerplan.

Cordina had withdrawn his candidature on the thirteenth (Gozo) district during the last elections.

Gozo Channel now falls within the remit of the Gozo ministry. It previously was the responsibility of either the finance or the transport ministry.

Another Labour candidate, this time European Parliament elections candidate Christian Zammit, a notary, will serve as Gozo Channel's deputy chairperson. A new board secretary, lawyer Renata Formosa, will replace former secretary Dr Georgine Grech, from Grech & Grech Associates.

The other memnbers are Dr Kevin Mompalao, Charles Muscat, Michael Attard, Josianne Cutajar, George Said, Victor Borg, and Liliana Curmi.

Joseph Grech, the former chairman of Gozo Channel, had to resign after demanding that a ferry boat return to Mgarr to pick him up when he arrived late for the boat. He later applied for the post of chief executive of the company.
