Government inquiry into misappropriation of Marsascala family park funds
A government inquiry to be held over the alleged misappropriation of funds earmarked for the construction of the Marsascala family park
Corrected: No magisterial inquiry was ongoing.
A government inquiry is set to investigate the alleged misappropriation of funds during the construction of the €7 million family park in Marsascala.
In a recent visit to the park, which was inaugurated by the previous administration just weeks before the March 2013 election, environment minister Leo Brincat said that the €7 million project had been blighted by administrative and infrastructural problems.
Sources have told MaltaToday that unnamed persons diverted funds intended for the park's construction for their personal use.
The person chosen by the Labour government to chair the board running the park has so far refused to take up the position before the Police take any action on the alleged misappropriation.
Laste week, the Management Efficiency Unit (MEU) was instructed by Brincat to compile a technical report on the development of the Family Park and carry out an in-depth investigation on how the park management was developed.
Brincat explained that the major problems at the park are down to the fact that there is no integrated management plan in place.
