Former Judge Ray Pace, 54, has been found dead at home. The police could not confirm whether Pace died of natural causes however they ruled out foul play.

Pace was found dead at his home in Attard early this morning by a family member who lives with the former Judge. The Police were immediately informed of the death and upon initiating the investigations it was clear that there was no foul play involved.

Investigations are being carried out and no one else is believed to have been involved in his death.

Political leaders from across the political spectrum have expressed their shock and called for press restraint.

Last year, Pace, a father of three, resigned from the Bench after being charged with bribery and trading in influence. Criminal proceedings against him were ongoing, and he was out on bail.

This is very sad indeed. I do not care if he was innocent or guilty but here in Malta everyone is guily until proved innocent. Imagine the pressure this person was under. very very unfair. we need quicker judgements from court and less bull from the press.

"Yes, death must be so beautiful to lie in the soft brown earth, with grass waving above one's head, and listen to silence, to have no yesterday and no tomorrow. To forget time, to forget life, to be at peace. You can help me. You can open for me the portals of death's house, for love is always with you, and love is stranger than death is". -- Oscar Wilde Rest in Peace

Whatever the recent negative news about Ray Pace as a judge, at this sad point i humbly salute the otherwise gentleman and hard-working lawyer that i knew as a neighbour years ago! Rest in peace Ray....

Not knowing the facts of the criminal proceedings - its hard to accept and understand that the same person that delivered the case sentence Ray C. Pace 2002 that is the judge that understood that children with disability parents should continue paying alimony even after 18 years. That is a judge who felt and was sensitive to a lacuna that Parliament forgot to legislate. That this person called a Judge, a person of a level of responsibility, and yet this tragedy. I can't make my proper conclusions here. A man who feels does not go to that level, but people change in character it is only human nature! or not?

I am sorry that he has passed away. He was handling many court cases that I am involved in which have taken an eternity to pass judgement which have cost potentially millions of Euros. Cases that should have beeb resolved many years ago. I believe that the cases need to be investigated for conflict of interest and possible impropriety. I sincerely hope that his death does not prevent a proper and impartial review. At the end of the day he was appointed to provide swift and prompt judgement without innocent parties having to incur substantial costs including legal costs and other consultants costs. I want my matters properly investigated so that a fair and reasonable result is achieved.
