Air Malta question in parliament gets ‘default answer’
Parliamentary question on Air Malta gets default answer: ‘information is commercially sensitive’.
A question in parliament made to tourism minister Karmenu Vella on Air Malta got the 'default answer' which used to be given by then Finance Minister Tonio Fenech as the person politically responsible for the national airline.
This evening's question was tabled by Opposition MP Robert Arrigo. Arrigo asked Vella to list the persons - English and other foreigners - who were employed by Air Malta, together with their salary packages. Other details included when their contract terminated, and whether government would be keeping these workers on board.
But the minister failed to reply to the question, quoting "commercially sensitive information" - a reply which the previous government used to give any time a question on the restructuring of Air Malta used to be made.
"The question is commercially sensitive and therefore a reply cannot be given," Vella replied.
