Opposition MP Robert Arrigo had to contend with "a question is commercially sensitive" reply

A question in parliament made to tourism minister Karmenu Vella on Air Malta got the 'default answer' which used to be given by then Finance Minister Tonio Fenech as the person politically responsible for the national airline.

This evening's question was tabled by Opposition MP Robert Arrigo. Arrigo asked Vella to list the persons - English and other foreigners - who were employed by Air Malta, together with their salary packages. Other details included when their contract terminated, and whether government would be keeping these workers on board.

But the minister failed to reply to the question, quoting "commercially sensitive information" - a reply which the previous government used to give any time a question on the restructuring of Air Malta used to be made.

"The question is commercially sensitive and therefore a reply cannot be given," Vella replied.

How can this information be "commercially sensitive" when the entire AirMalta setup is up to it's ears in debt to the taxpayer. Surely the taxpayer has a right to know how it's money is being squandered. PL? Carbon copy of PN.

What is good for the goose is good for the gander. What was the standard answer for the Hon Tonio Fenech is now the standard answer for the Hon Karmenu Vella. Why is joedebono raffled by this? why is he quoting the Mintoff era when he could have quoted an answer given by the GONZIPN era just 3 months ago. Why should maltesecross be so cross when his own cronies, his very own corrupt government was stating exactly the same statement. Who knows? maybe there is a good valid commercial reason why the Hon Karmenu Vella replied the way he did. But of course maltesecross has been making Maltese cross with his blind support for a Government which has been placed into oblivion by the vast majority of the Maltese People. Never, in the history of modern Malta has such a defeat been experienced by any Party.

Well, what's so strange? It's just a taste of their own medicine, remember? Two can play at the game, and the ball is now in PL's possession.

I suggest the hon.arrigo to table the following questions 1.dishing out promotions without probations to well known boys! 2.how reducing employees by around 500/600 and employing the same amount and some workers are over 50/55years of age? 3.some chosen clerical staff in skypark are earning astronomical pay figures, when the company is in the red! unbelievable!!!!!

The answer reminds me of the Mintoff era mantra "Mhux fl-interess tal-poplu."

I got the same taken from stock response when I asked Enemalta and Liquigas how much they paid for oil and gas and in what quantities they purchased it and how often?Wonder if it would be commercially sensitive to ask about the conclusions of the "probe" into Capt.Azzopardi and the Milangate affair -which was promised to be revealed by Air Malta just "after Christmas" -although, in mitigation, they didn't say which Christmas!
