Improve public transport now - Consumers' Association

The Consumers’ Association calls for an efficient public transport service at the soonest.

The consumers' association commended the transport minister Joe Mizzi for holding a public consultation process on the public transport service and urged him to keep the lines of communication open.

The large number of complaints on the public transport operator Arriva's customer care service confirms the need for ongoing public consultation, the association said.

"The number of complaints and the their content confirm how serious the problem in the sector is," the consumers' association said.

Noting that since the introduction of Arriva, the bus tariffs increased drastically despite an increase in government subsidies, the association called on Transport Malta to urgently address the problems in punctuality and frequency of busses.

While thanking the transport ministry for its efforts, the association pointed out the customers' prolonged dissatisfaction, with the "inadequate and inefficient service."

Some residents, like those of Misrah Kola, Attard have four direct buses to Mater Dei and Sliema, and other residents have none !!

One does not know whether the Hon Joe Mizzi is informed about Arriva's transport service from Ċirkewwa. As things stand today Arriva buses leave the terminus at Ċiekewwa while the Ferry Boat is still berthing and before the passengers are on shore. Here, therefore one suggests that transport from Ċirkewwa should coincide with the arrival of the Ferry Boat and buses should not leave the terminus before the passengers are out of the terminal.
