PN General Council to approve new deputy leader post
This morning the PN councillors will be called to approve amendments paving way for election of second deputy leader.
The decision to create a new deputy leader post within the PN's hierarchy has taken many by surprise.
This morning the PN General Council will be approving the statutory changes which will see the party elect two deputy leaders instead of one.
The PN councillors are expected to endorse the proposal put forward by new leader Simon Busuttil and approved by the party's executive committee on Thursday.
Despite priding itself on being ahead of the Labour Party, the PN will be emulating the its eternal rival and have a deputy leader responsible for Parliamentary affairs and another responsible for party affairs.
The decision may well accommodate leadership contender Mario de Marco, the former tourism minister who garnered 38% of the vote in the first round of voting for the PN leadership.
De Marco insisted that he would only contest the deputy leadership race if he is uncontested, however MP Beppe Fenech Adami was not ready to step back from contesting.
