On Mother’s Day, Corradino prisoners donate tablet to 11-year-old boy

Prisoners at the Corradino Correctional Facility make wheelchair-user young boy’s wish come true by donating him a tablet.

Damien Ebejer, an 11-year-old boy who is wheelchair-user, had a small wish come true after prisoners at the Corradino Correctional Facility collected €1 each to buy the boy a tablet.

The boy, who suffers from a condition by which he is gradually losing his fingers and toes, came to know the prisoners some three years ago. But a number of prisoners remained in contact with him.

Marking Mother's Day, the prisoners wanted to grant Damien a small wish he had: that of owning a tablet. The prisoners also wrote him a letter, wishing him a speedy recovery and letting him know that he was always in their prayers.

The prisoners this morning also celebrated mass at the prison's chapel, for which Home Affairs Manuel Mallia was also present.

Welcoming the prisoners' warm gesture, Mallia said this had sent a strong message to society in general.

€150 were also donated to the boy by Mallia's secretariat staff.

To me this is what politics is all about, taking care of those in need and not forgetting those who need love and compassion. Being one who served for some time as a juror I know Dr. Mallia's competence. I wish we have more of His like. I remember when I was on duty as a juror the word was that most of those jailed are the stupid ones the real criminals are out on the street. Dr. Mallia you do honor to us all. Thank you.
