Part of land promised to Muslim Community being developed by third parties
Ongoing investigation to determine how part of a land promised to the Muslim Community in Malta is now in the hands of third parties.
The government has ordered an investigation to establish how part of a land that has been promised to the Muslim Community in Malta since 2008 is now in the hands of third parties.
MaltaToday is informed that during the weeks leading to the 9 March elections, development works started on a piece of land owned by government. Permits for swimming pools were also filed. The land was divided into plots and were reportedly put up for sale.
The previous administration had been in talks with Imam Mohammed El Sadi since 2008 to discuss plans for the devolution of the land. The Muslim community was planning an expansion of the Mariam al Batool school.
The talks went on for five years, with former Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi pledging the land devolution even during the last electoral campaign.
It now appears that while the community was being promised the stretch of land, third parties came into possession of part of the same land.
When contacted by Sunday newspaper Illum, the Office of the Prime Minister said the outcome of the investigation should be able to establish further details to how third parties filed applications and how permits could have been granted.
