Huge fire destroys Mt. Carmel Hospital laundry

Civil Protection units were seen fighting the blaze for some hours as the flames engulfed the building that is adjacent to the hospital grounds.

The intense heat generated from the blaze made it quite dificult for the firefighters to control the blaze.

According to sources, the fire completely destroyed the laundry complex, while an investigation into what cause the blaze has been launched.

Health Minister Joe Cassar and other officials from the Health Department were on site, while a forensic team worked thoughout the night to find clues as to what might have started the fire.

A senior police officer said that it was still early to comment on whether the fire started due to a fault or was the work of arson.

A magisterial inquiry is underway.
