Marsa Sports Village revised draft call not yet published
Malta Sports Council meets interested investors, hears suggestions to how original call for the development of a sports village could be revised.
A revised draft call for the development of the Marsa Sports Village has not yet been published, Employment Minister Evarist Bartolo said this evening in parliament.
The Marsa Sports Village project, launched during the previous legislature by then Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi with negotiations originally planned to be concluded by the end of 2010, covers an area of 812,000 square metres of land covering a number of sports disciplines, while also proposing improved and more facilities, including an equestrian centre, rugby pitches, and a golf club.
Bartolo has now revealed that the Malta Sports Council met with a number of investors interested in the development of the sports village in Marsa.
"The consultation meetings were held to hear the suggestions on what improvements could be made to the original call," Bartolo said.
He added that the decision was taken after no submissions were made.
The expression of interest for the development of the sports village was published in the Government Gazette in July 2011 with the deadline for submissions set to October 2011.
The Malta Sports Council had then accepted to extend the deadline by four weeks after three of the five developers had asked for an extension.
"After these meetings, a revised call was drafted. However this has not yet been published," he added.
