Question raised by shadow minister prompts action by Health Minister
Gynae patients at Mater Dei Hospital have ‘lunch’ at 2:30pm after B-Pod involuntarily switched off.
Question raised by Opposition MP Joe Cassar led Health Minister Godfrey Farrugia to take the necessary steps after Gynae patients at Mater Dei ended up having lunch at 2:30pm.
Tabling his question in parliament, Cassar asked why the patients failed to eat at midday and instead were given their lunch some two hours late.
Thanking his predecessor for bringing the issue to light, Farrugia said that during maintenance works being carried out at ward led to the involuntary switching off of the B-Pod - a single tray trolley nesting system.
"This caused delays in the distribution of meals," the minister explained.
Farrugia went on to apologise to the patients for any inconvenience caused and thanked Cassar.
"Thanks to Cassar we got to know about the incident and we are now taking the necessary steps to avoid its repetition," he added.
