Two pending applications for fireworks factories in Ghaxaq

During the past 15 months, the Malta Environment and Planning Authority turned down three applications for the development of fireworks factories in Rabat, Dingli and Gharb.

It however has four pending applications before its board - two of which are in the same locality.

In reply to a parliamentary question raised by MP Censu Galea, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said the four pending applications are for two factories in Ghaxaq, on in Zurrieq and the other in Gharb, Gozo.

During the same period, MEPA approved an application for the development of a fireworks factory in Imgarr.

Two of the applications refused were rejected at the first stage while a third was rejected on appeal.
