PL says Fenech must answer for 'lying' during electoral campaign
Labour Party said former finance minister lied when he said he received an artisan Maltese clock as a token of admiration.
The Labour Party said the Nationalist Party "had a lot of explaining to do" after former Police Commissioner John Rizzo revealed that the party had received two artisan clocks, known as tal-lira, financed by Powerplan.
The same with the artisan Maltese clock (tal-lira) gifted that fuelled speculation on the former administration's intimacy with an oil trader granted a pardon in the Enemalta kickbacks scandal, had been paid by George Farrugia's family business Powerplan and used to broker a chance meeting with then finance minister Tonio Fenech.
"During the electoral campaign, Tonio Fenech insisted that gift was nothing else other than a token of admiration by Farrugia's sister-in-law. But now, the woman declared that the only crafted the clock because her husband asked her to and was financed by the company," the PL said in a statement.
According to Labour, this only meant that the former minister lied throughout the whole campaign.
The party asked why the PN had also hid the fact that it had received two clocks from the same persons as well.
"Is the PN still in possession of these clocks? Or were they given to party exponents? If so, who?" the PL said.
