Government seeks EBU’s help in reviewing broadcasting policy
European Broadcasting Union to assist government in reviewing national broadcasting policy, minister Manuel Mallia says.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) agreed to offer its expertise in the government's drive to review the broadcasting policy, Manuel Mallia, the minister for home affairs and broadcasting said.
Mallia, who flew to Sweden this morning, met EBU's director-general Ingrid Deltenre. Mallia was accompanied by Public Broadcasting Services (PBS) chairman Tonio Portughese and CEO Anton Attard.
In a statement issued today, the ministry said that EBU would be providing its "infrastructure, legal assistance and the necessary experience to update the policy."
The statement added that the policy must reflect the latest technological developments and move from a "Public Service Broadcasting to a Public Service Media."
The 70th EBU general assembly wo be held in Malta in June was also discussed and Deltenre expressed her satisfaction at the level of preparations for the important event which would "strengthen the relations between EBU and PBS."
Later today, the minister will meet with the EBU executive board president Jean-Paul Philippot, before making his way to the Malmo Arena to watch the Eurovision Song Festival final.
