Martin Scicluna lambasted by gay lobby
The Malta Gay Rights Movement hit out at the conclusions of a report on same-sex marriage: ‘completely unacceptable to deny human rights to anyone, irrespective of the level of preparedness or maturity of a country’.

Human rights are an entitlement and have nothing to do with a country's level of maturity, said Malta Gay Rights Movement Coordinator Gabi Calleja.
Calleja was reacting to the Today Public Policy Institute (TPPI) recommendation to introduce civil unions for same-sex couples instead of same-sex marriages.
This week, TPPI Director-General Martin Scicluna said introducing gay marriage would be one step too far for Malta, adding that it would be "premature and impolitic."
Speaking to MaltaToday, Calleja said, "It is completely unacceptable to deny human rights to anyone, irrespective of the level of preparedness or maturity of a country."
The TPPI also calls for a longitudinal scientific study to look at the sensitive issue of the effects on children in same-sex relationships.
"Based on the outcome of such a study, all other factors being equal, the legislation should seek to cater for same-sex couples with children. It should give due regard to any children who may reside with same-sex civil partners," the report says.
However, Calleja hit out at this proposal, saying it was uncalled for to distinguish between people with different sexual orientations.

Marriage is exclusively a man-woman affair. Anything else needs to have a new nomenclature. You cannot call a table, a chair simply because it has 4 legs. I agree that homosexuals should have the same civil rights but they have no right to twist reality. Be original and invent a new name to your union.

If a country needs to mature before giving it's citizens equal basic rights , the USA would still be having slavery.Just watch Fox News to see how they treat their own president.

What human right are they talking about? These people are in denial of the fact that their leanings do not follow nature. Love each other with all your hearts, but do not expect either nature or society to go against what nature established and gift you with children. Sue nature in court.

The rights of children is what is at stake here! If it is in their interest to distinguish between people with different sexual orientations, then so be it! People do not have an absolute right to be parents irrespective of whatever consequences that right might have on third parties i.e. children.
There is ample evidence that psychological issues start creeping in when children adopted by homosexual couples reach adolescence.
However I feel that on other matters, homosexual couples should have equal rights and obligations.
