Yana Micallef Stafrace to head domestic violence commission

Family minister Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca appoints domestic violence commission.

Lawyer Yana Micallef Stafrace was today appointed chairperson of the domestic violence commission.

Family minister Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca appointed 11 persons on the commission.

She said the commission would be holding consultation meetings with all stakeholders and address domestic violence in terms of preventive and educational measures.

"Undoubtedly victims should be offered a safe and stable environment, however, above all we need to integrate the victims in society to ensure that they can lead a life in dignity," Coleiro Preca said.

The Chairperson of the Malta Confederation of Women's Organisation Rene Laiviera was appointed as deputy chairperson while Doris Vassallo was appointed secretary of the commission.

The other members are Dr Oriella Fabri, Ms Marouska Bonnici, Dr Rita Borg Xuereb, Dr Josef Masini Vento, Dr Charles Cassar, Ms Charlene Barbara, Police Inspector Louise Calleja and Dr Roberta Lepre.
