PN hits out at transfers at elderly residence
Opposition says staff transfers at elderly home will have negative impact on elderly persons and their relatives.
The Nationalist Party expressed its concern over staff transfers at St Vincent de Paul Residence and said that elderly care should not fall victim of the government's over-spending.
The PN media is reporting that over the weekend 90 transfers took place at the residency, bringing the total of transfers since the March general election to 300.
The Opposition said these transfers followed other unreasonable transfers in the same elderly care residency and cast doubts over the importance the government is giving to the sector.
"The PN has always given importance to the needs of elderly persons, including those suffering from dementia."
In a statement issued today, the Opposition explained that yesterday, relatives of patients housed at the Home's Activity Centre, which also serves as a respite centre for people in the community suffering dementia, were asked to pick up their relatives because the centre was being closed down.
"Later, the staff was told that the centre would not be closed, however they were summoned to the Superintendent's office so that alternative posts could be found for them. It now appears that the facility will be run by an Occupational Therapist and other staff, mostly well-known Labour activists," the PN said.
"The PN asks what has become of Labour's infamous roadmap in the elderly care sector and the PN also asks whether the impact of these transfers on elderly persons and their relatives have been studied. Hopefully elderly care will not be the first victim of the government's wrong and insensitive measures to make up for its wild spending."
