‘Malta must make a move on right to lawyer’ - AD
Greens urge Maltese government and parliament to act swiftly and introduce right to lawyer.
It is shameful that both the PN and the PL representatives in the Maltese parliament have ignored the sentences of the Maltese Constitutional Court for years on end, thus denying Maltese citizens of their basic right of access to a lawyer even at interrogation stage, Alternattiva Demokratika spokesperson on EU and International Affairs Arnold Cassola said.
EU rules on the right of access to a lawyer in criminal proceedings were finalised in a final round of trialogue negotiations between the European Parliament and Council this evening.
"The Maltese government and parliament must now get moving. The arrogance of the Maltese members of Parliament must come to an end immediately," Cassola said.

It is so ironic in other Democracies they demand Freedom of speech, Religion, Press, Assembly, Petition and we still raise the right of assistance when in custody. We are no different then our fathers, they used to be sentenced to death in a Maltese court speaking in Italian and the accused did not have a clue what is happened. I quested are we any better in the year 2013 when we are called as free citizens to be investigated and jailed all on assumptions or allegations. Well what is the rush for our representatives they only care for their piece of cake.

What is AD, who is AD? How can AD have spokesmen when it doesn't even have a Party Leader and the post is still vacant!
