KNPD presents judicial protest against BOV over ‘discriminatory’ travel insurance policy

The National Commission for Persons with a Disability (KNPD) today presented a judicial protest in Court against Bank of Valletta plc in terms of the Equal Opportunities’ Act (Disabled Persons) Act 2000.

In its judicial protest, the Commission has called on BOV to change a clause in the travel insurance policy offered by the bank and which was discriminatory against disabled persons “both when they are going abroad as well as other persons who are going abroad and stay at a disabled person’s house”.

The KNPD explained how the request had been made since January 2007. Despite the fact that an agreement had been reached with the Bank on how to change the relevant clause, until now it had not been printed and distributed as corrected, the Commission lamented.

The Commission has called on BOV to do “the necessary work without any further delay” so that there would not be the need for the Commission to open a Court case against the Bank under the same law.

The KNPD insisted how it was committed to see that disabled persons have equal opportunities especially by stopping every kind of discrimination against them and also to ensure that the provision of the Equal Opportunities’ Act were implemented.
