Former PN councillor Cyrus Engerer announces European Parliament elections candidature on Labour Party ticket.
Gay activist and Labour Party member Cyrus Engerer announced that he will be submitting his nomination to contest next year's European Parliament elections, on the Labour Party ticket.
Engerer, a former PN councilor who switched to Labour in 2011 following the pN stand against divorce, this morning launched an online campaign that invites the public to share ideas on the themes that Engerer should emphasise in the European Parliament, if given the electorate's trust.
"I believe that the first step for representation should be to listen to the wishes and aspirations of Maltese and Gozitan citizens. It is important for me to know what the Maltese expect out of their Members of the European Parliament and what they their priorities should be once elected," Engerer said.
"It is these priorities that the positive and forward-looking campaign will be based on. The hopes and aspirations of the Maltese nation, in Malta and in Europe."
Engerer explained how the website, www.cyrusengerer.com, empowers the public to draft the politician's agenda by choosing the themes which they deem to be important, including those issues that have never been given their due importance yet.
Through the website one can also chose to take an active role in Cyrus Engerer's campaign by choosing a number of options, including being active in one's own locality, organising a house-party, communications, logistics, online media, door-to-door, activities, audio-visuals and through other means.
Former Prime Minister Alfred Sant will also be contesting the May 2014 elections on the Labour ticket and it is thought that Labour media journalist Miriam Dalli and MPs Joe Sammut and Marlene Farrugia will also be among Labour's candidates.
