Parliamentary question with different replies prompts ‘investigation’
Deputy speaker Censu Galea confirms ‘investigation’ to find how two different answers were given to the same question.
Two different replies to a question raised by Nationalist MP Marthese Portelli have led to an 'investigation' by the clerks of the House to find what went wrong.
Yesterday in parliament, Portelli asked for the investigation declaring it was "unacceptable" that different replies are given.
The issue arose after a reply by Health Minister Godfrey Farrugia uploaded in the parliament's website did not tally with the printed version distributed in parliament.
Portelli had asked whether any consultants had been engaged by the health ministry. Farrugia replied there was only one consultant and went on to list the services he was providing.
But when the question was then uploaded on the parliament's website, the reply read that no consultants had been engaged.
The PN is now asking why the "reply is totally different" from the original.
While human error during the uploading process is not being excluded, deputy speaker Censu Galea yesterday reassured Portelli that an investigation will be held.
