Sliema local council, parliamentary secretary in ‘positive’ meeting about suspended parking scheme
Sliema mayor and vice mayor meet with Jose Herrera about suspended controlled timed parking scheme.
According to the Sliema local council, the meeting it had yesterday afternoon with parliamentary secretary Jose Herrera was "very cordial and positive".
During the meeting Sliema mayor Anthony Chircop and vice-mayor Kris Busietta spoke with Herrera about the issue of the suspension of the controlled times parking scheme.
A holistic traffic management report which the council had submitted to the government, was also discussed and explained in more detail.
The report details initiatives for the segmenting of the Sliema locality into commercial, residential and school zone, where various traffic related issues will be catered to according to the necessities of these zones.
These traffic issues include speed management, parking maximisation, internal public transport and the controlled timed parking scheme.
Sliema council reiterated its position that the introduction of the controlled timed parking scheme is legal, since it was being implemented according to Legal Notice 200 of 2009. It said the decision to suspend it was ultra vires.
Sliema council said it remains committed to introducing the controlled timed parking scheme in the locality and remains open to suggestions for the betterment of the system.
