Loss or theft of ID cards need to be reported
Citizens who lose or have ID card stolen need to lodge a report, the Commissioner of Police and the Chief Electoral Commissioner say.
The Commissioner of Police and the Chief Electoral Commissioner said that Maltese citizens who lose their identity card or have their identity card stolen need to first lodge a report of loss/theft at a Police Station.
The statement noted that the presentation of another photo identification document would be of assistance.
A copy of the report or an acknowledgement of the said report is to be taken personally to the ID Cards Office at Evans Building in Valletta where a sworn statement or solemn declaration would be administered, a fresh digital photo is taken and a substitute ID Card is issued at the same time, at an all inclusive fee of €3.49.
Office hours are Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 2.30pm; Wednesdays also from 3.00pm to 6.00pm; Saturdays from 7.30am to 10.30am.
