180 cases of slapped cheek syndrome at schools since April
Most reported cases in Mellieha, Xghajra and Mosta primary schools.
A total of 180 cases of slapped cheek syndrome were reported in primary schools across Malta and Gozo, health minister Godfrey Farrugia said today.
Replying to a parliamentary question raised by Opposition MP Clyde Puli, Farrugia said the case of slapped cheek syndrome since April amounted to 180. Initial reports had referred to 23 cases.
According to information tabled in parliament, the highest cases were reported in Mellieha (27 cases), Xghajra (20 cases), Mosta (18 cases) and Birkirkara (15 cases) primary schools.
Due to the cases, the Minister for education has granted pregnant educators quarantine leave.
