310 migrants reached Malta since January

Home affairs minister Manuel Mallia says 310 persons were rescued at sea since beginning of year.

A total of 310 migrants have reached Malta since the beginning of the year, home affairs minister Manuel Mallia said.

Answering a Parliamentary Question  by Opposition MP Chris Said this evening, Mallia explained that 272 of these persons were Somali nationals while the rest came from Algeria (1), Morocco (6), and Syria (31).

With 102 arrivals, March was the busiest month, while 84 migrants were rescued at sea in April and a further 83 in May.

There were no arrivals in January and February.
