MEPA to make €6 million loss in 2013

Malta Environment and Planning Authority set to make €6 million loss in 2013, financial estimates show.

The Malta Environment and Planning Authority's (MEPA) 2013 financial estimates forecast a €6 million loss.

While the authority is estimating that it will rake in €11.1 million, it's current expenditure is predicted to reach €17.1 million.

MEPA's biggest expenditure is in salaries, which stands at over €13.1 million while its main source of income comes from permit fees, reaching €4 million.

At €3 million, environmental fees charged to government are another substantial source of income for MEPA.

The authority estimates the cost of water and electricity at €306,000 while transport costs will reach €415,000. MEPA will also spend up to €555,000 in supplies and over €250,000 for security services.
