24 new correctional officers sworn in at Kordin
“Officers will play a vital role in the much needed prison reform” – Home Affairs Minister
Twenty-four new correctional officers were sworn into the police academy in Santa Venera yesterday during a Passing-Out Parade.
Home Affairs Minister Manuel Mallia, who was in attendance, said correctional officers were society's partners in the rehabilitation of prisoners at Kordin Correctional Facility. He added that he believes each of these officers will be of help in the much needed reform.
"You must always remember the oath you swore, despite any temptation you may face," he said, while reminding them of their role in the rehabilitation of people who - despite having had their freedom taken from them, cannot have their dignity taken from them.
The minister said society expects each and every officer to respect the responsibility they have been entrusted with.
He said the Ministry's door is open to all those who would like to see a reform come about. He ended his speech by thanking the correctional officers for choosing this vocation, and also thanked all those who were involved in the training of the officials, which lasted four months.
